About the Book and CD

This workbook and CD set contains a series of word building songs and activities designed to strengthen phonological and phonemic awareness.

By combining the song selections in the "Sounds to Words" CD, along with the Word Activity Exercises found in this book, learners will be able to quickly grasp the letter-sound relationships that are needed to construct over 200 words that are associated with the alphabetic and pattern stages of English orthographic spelling. Multiple opportunities are provided to segment words of two to three sounds into their individual sounds (e.g., cat= /c/a/t/; that= /th/a/t/; dish=/d/i/sh/) as well as distinguish between long and short vowel sounds in orally stated single syllable words (e.g., bit/bite). Students will then be able to combine these sounds into recognizable words.

"Sounds to Words" is the spelling program that transfers to reading success!

Introduced in this program, finger spelling, not to be confused with American Sign Language, is a kinesthetic approach to sounding out words. By doing finger spelling activities, a powerful connection to phonemic awareness will be achieved.
