Being able to see children's faces when they are engaged in singing and movement, let alone when they realize they can read and write is the only explanation needed to understand my dedication to this task.

The songs in this collection include what children everywhere love to do. Children universally like to play, dance, sing, jump, wiggle, run, laugh, talk, eat, etc. Children have families, share friends, like toys, go to school, learn to read and write, learn about colors and numbers, learn about animals, go places, enjoy music, etc. These songs were written to extend

children's own realm of actual and imagined experiences, expand vocabulary, and will stand up to repeated listenings with melodies that are proven to be easy to remember and fun for children to sing.

The Singing, Reading, Writing Connection compliments the use of other existing early literacy or English Language Development programs or curricula. Text, lyrics, and sound recordings in this book/CD were written in order to provide added support to beginning readers, writers, and English Language Learners. Authentic and meaningful language, repetitive and predictable patterns, a vast cadre of 120 high frequency reading, writing and speaking words, large print, and picture cues are found in the 27 song selections; these same attributes are also found in outstanding early literacy books, including Wright and Rigby. All of this, plus the addition of the supportive components of music and singing make this book and CD an exemplary resource to help children learn.

Children will be engaged and encouraged to sing, read, move, write, and color. They will wish to sing these songs over and over again. Research has shown decisively that when children enjoy learning, their learning is deeper, richer, and longer lasting. They are more persistent, more creative, and eager to do challenging work.
